USMSB.com – Visa and VNPT Money are pushing Vietnam’s cashless sprint into a new gear with the launch of Visa Pay, a fresh in-wallet feature that lets consumers pay fast and securely straight from the VNPT Money mobile wallet — at home and on the road.
Visa says VNPT Money is the first digital wallet in Vietnam to go live with Visa Pay.
The rollout starts with Scan to Pay, meaning users can scan QR codes and pay at thousands of merchants with fewer steps — no extra apps, no extra friction — backed by Visa’s global security standards.
But the bigger flex is travel.
Vietnamese users can now scan QR codes abroad and pay directly from their VNPT Money wallet balance, sidestepping cash hassles and leaning on competitive exchange costs and promos, according to the companies.
More functionality is already queued up. Visa and VNPT Money say Tap to Pay and eCommerce payments are on deck in 2026, expanding VNPT Money’s reach from QR checkout to broader in-store and online spend.
Visa Vietnam and Laos Country Manager Dung Dang pitched Visa Pay as a “catalyst” for digital transformation and financial inclusion — aiming to bring trusted digital payments to everyone from major cities to rural communities.
VNPT FinTech Center Director Nguyễn Đăng Thắng called the international payment capability a milestone in building a fuller digital payments ecosystem that meets international standards — and supports Vietnam’s national digital transformation roadmap.
Why MSBs should care
- Wallet-native rails are winning: “Pay inside the wallet” is becoming the default experience — fewer steps means higher conversion at checkout.
- Cross-border gets more retail: QR payments tied to wallet balances can pull more everyday spend into digital channels, especially for travel and tourism flows.
- Transparency and controls will matter more: As wallet-based payments scale, expect rising focus on FX disclosure, dispute handling, fraud controls, and transaction monitoring — particularly where wallets become the primary “account” for consumers.
In short: Visa and VNPT Money aren’t just adding a feature — they’re trying to lock in Vietnam’s next wave of wallet-led payments, with cross-border usability that could accelerate adoption well beyond major urban centers.
